At the age of 20, I began dating "Mr. Wonderful." This relationship moved pretty quickly, and not long after I moved in with "Mr. Wonderful", he began mentally and physically abusing me. After 11 long months, he finally moved 8 hours away. Not long after he was gone, I filed for a protective order and filed criminal charges with the appropriate agencies. On September 27, 2023, he plead guilty to beating me in Denton County, Texas.
If you know me, you know that I don't know how to shut up, and you would think I'd be the last person to get involved in something like this. For me, the hardest part about moving on is knowing I stayed silent and felt like I couldn't speak out. In September of 2021, I started making Tik Toks to tell my story. After reading through dozens of comments and messages from people who expressed their regret in not reporting their abuser, I knew I couldn't sit back and let this keep going on.
I've remained an active voice for victims of domestic violence by working with Texas lawmakers to draft the successful HB 1432, testifying at the Texas Capitol, and working with domestic violence organizations to continue developing legislative agendas and to start survivor groups for women who want to speak out. My story was also recently featured in an amicus brief defending the federal law that bars subjects to domestic violence protective orders from owning firearms in United States v. Rahimi. Once I finish law school in May 2025, I will continue using my voice and experience to advocate for the next girl who comes across her own Mr. Wonderful.
l wish I would have known that Mr. Wonderful was actually Satan Reincarnated before I found out the hard way, but I had no way to know on my own. After doing some research, I discovered that there are no online domestic violence registries. There are websites to report thieves, cheaters, and publish revenge porn, but nothing to report the people who are statistically more likely to murder their partner?! It was completely unbelievable. I purchased this site the next day.

More information about Huskins v. Marcus Everett Garcia can be found on the
Contrary to statements repeated by Mr. Wonderful, the judge found that Marcus committed family violence against me. The PO was denied because the judge found that family violence wasn't likely to occur again in the future.
However, I successfully fought for HB 1432, which, as stated by the Texas Bar Journal (Vol. 86, No. 8, Pg. 581-82), "significantly alters the issuance of protective orders." Now, victims of family violence only need to show that family violence has occurred.
